8. Standard Schnauzer
Known for its endearing and distinctive whiskered snout, this dog is most at home in the country or the suburbs where there is room to run and play. This breed typically lives for between 13 and 15 years and does well with children and adults. These dogs were used during World War II as messengers, and they are extremely loyal to their families. Their coats are long, come in a variety of colors, and it requires regular brushing, but they do not shed.
